Concert 2

This program contrasts darkness (first half) with light (second half).

Nicholas Hooper In noctem

An unused track from a deleted scene from Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Short, but lovely - we would do with piano.

Beethoven/Biery Moonlight Sonata/Kyrie

Though the text doesn't have much to do with 'darkness', the name and mood of the work fits the theme, and would have been our nod to Beethoven 250.

Judith Bingham The darkness is no darkness

This is a 'fantasia' on the Wesley Thou wilt keep him. Bingham says that the Wesley should follow immediately after, so you should listen to it immediately after!

Wesley Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace

Primarily programmed this because of the Bingham, but the text focusses on darkness and light, so fits nicely with the theme.

Gjeilo Dark Night of the Soul

You'll recall we did Luminous Night of the Soul in 2016, which is the companion piece to this one (you should recognise some material that reappears in Luminous).

Lauridsen Lux Aeterna

This is the 'light' half of the program. There are a number of performances on YouTube that you can search for, and an excellent recording by Polyphony on the album 'Lauridsen: Lux aeterna & other works,' available on iTunes and other online music stores.
